Information Science


Department of Information Science and Engineering was established in 2001, with an intake of 60 students. The Department is accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in 2008, New Delhi for 3 years and Affiliated to (VTU) Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, Karnataka. The department has quality laboratories, library facility for staff & students and also well trained, and experienced teaching faculty with an average teaching experience of 9 years. The faculty emphasizes theoretical and practical applications of computation and computer systems to the needs of industry. The faculty members are actively involved in research activities in various areas. The Department has a Forum "INFONIX" encourage in all-round development of the students through various Technical and non-Technical activities conducted throughout the year. Students are inspired to participate in extracurricular, co-curricular and sports activities while focusing on academics.

Mission
Don Bosco department of Information Science and Engineering would like to disseminate the knowledge among students through innovative learning process while providing quality training in the area of programming skills, computer networks, decision support system and software engineering and enabling further to inculcate the spirit of leadership.

Program Educational Objectives (PEO's)


PEO-1

To prepare students for graduate and postgraduate programmers and to succeed in a career in Information Science & Engineering related fields.

PEO-2

To provide students with a sound knowledge of science, mathematics and engineering principles together with an in-depth disciplinary knowledge required to succeed in Information Science & Engineering profession.

PEO-3

To train students with a wide scientific and engineering knowledge so as to comprehend, analyze, design, and create innovative software products and solutions for the real life problems.

PEO-4

To inculcate in students professional and ethical attitude with a strong character and to uphold the spiritual and cultural values, effective communication skills, teamwork skills, multidisciplinary approach, and an ability to relate engineering issues to broader social context.

PEO-5

To provide students with an academic environment aware of advanced technological growth leading to life-long learning needed for a successful professional career, excellence and leadership.

Engineering knowledge : Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science and core of Information Science to learn software engineering and programming fundamentals.

Design/development of solutions : Design solutions for complex Information Science engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the multidisciplinary teams.

Departmental Resources


The department has well equipped and ventilated class rooms with latest teaching aids, supported by four laboratories with updated hardware and software. A specific library has been made available for the department with an access of e-resources such as KNimbus, IEEE/IEL Online, Springer link, Taylor and Francis e-books and also video lecturers like NPTEL and EDUSAT while having thousands of latest books and journals for student and faculty reference. Department labs having more than 120 computers (Lenovo, Hp). Each lab is on LAN with student terminal ratio of 1:1. All labs have internet facility with 20 Mbps dedicated line with separate Wi-Fi access-point for lab and department. Licensed operating systems like windows 7,8.1,10 and software like oracle, Xilinx, orcad lite, visual studio 2012, supported by 50 KVA of dedicated UPS. Students are supported with indoor and outdoor auditoriums to conduct various programs. All the faculty members have specific chambers with the pool of secretarial assistants for the academic and department administration. The department provides RO purified water to students and highly hygienic toilets for boys and girls.
