Electrical and Electronics


Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) was established in the academic year 2003-04 with an intake of 60. The department is also running a post graduation program in Power Systems Engineering with an intake of 24. The programs are approved by AICTE and affiliated to VTU, Belgaum. The department is committed towards the academic and individual development of the students in enabling them to learn the current trends of Electrical & Electronics Engineering. The department has highly qualified and efficient faculty with few of them exposed to the industry experience. The department has a students’ forum called “Spark Aura” which actively conducts various co-curricular and extracurricular activities. The department has been organizing several national / state level conferences and students’ symposiums every year. The department conducts workshops, seminars and guest lectures to keep the students and staff updated with the current developments. The department also invites projects from industries to be implemented by the students. The students have been well trained with the support of the placement cell and have succeeded in carving respectful positions in top companies.

Mission
Don Bosco department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering is to provide an excellent learning platform for the development of its students and staff to attain their full potential in the avenues of power system, high voltage, control systems, design of electrical equipment and power electronics through involving individuals in the trends of the technological challenges.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)


PEO-1

To prepare the students by exposing them to fundamentals & latest technological developments to accomplish successful careers in the field of core engineering and allied fields.

PEO-2

To prepare Electrical and Electronics Engineering graduates for higher education to succeed in core design, power systems, control systems, power electronics, manufacturing, management or software profession through quality education.

PEO-3

To produce Engineers with necessary skills for industrial competency and to encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship for the betterment of society.

PEO-4

To provide students an academic environment conducive for acquiring the leadership qualities and aptitude for lifelong learning needed for a successful professional career.

Program outcomes (POs)


1. Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

2.Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and Engineering sciences.

3.Design/Development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate

consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

4.Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

5.Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

6.The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

7.Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

Career Opportunities


Electrical Engineering is a branch that deals with the field associated with power generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity with control of machines. Electrical Engineers are much in demand both in India and abroad, with a plethora of opportunities available all around. These engineers can work in atomic power plants, hydel, thermal and various non-conventional power plants. Job opportunities are ample in both private and public sectors like railways, civil aviation, electricity boards and utility companies, electrical design and consultancy firms and all types of manufacturing industries. Companies like ABB, Bajaj International Private Ltd, Crompton Greaves Limited, Siemens Ltd, Reliance Power Ltd, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Coal India Limited (CIL), Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), Centre for Electronics Design and Technology and Wipro Lighting are the biggest employers hiring Electrical Engineers.


Departmental Resources


The Department is well equipped with laboratory facilities catering to the needs of Power system simulation by the available advanced mi-power software for sufficient users. The availability of software MATLAB and well maintained compact hardware units fulfill the needs of the Control Systems lab. Adequate sets of DC machines, Synchronous machines and transformers with a rectifier unit, dedicated loads and supporting equipment suffice the needs of Machines laboratory. A comprehensive blend of all relays both conventional and advanced and a well-protected High Voltage cell with all safety norms incorporated to fulfill the requirements of Relays and High voltage lab. The department library is well furnished with the prescribed textbooks and reference books with volume around 400. Department provides E-resources facilities such as EDUSAT and NPTEL Programme, j-gate link, Springer link, IEEE explore, KNimbus, EBSCO, CRCnetbase link access with OPAC library facility. The department Library also consists of National & International Conference Proceedings, Project Reports of UG & PG Course, VTU Question Papers and IGNOU notes of UG Course. The Department has sufficient infrastructure that includes five classrooms and Seminar hall equipped with projectors. The department has well maintained rest rooms for girls and boys, facility signboards and purified drinking water facility.
